PRORATE PLATES INSURANCE

For the commercial vehicles that regularly travel within two or more jurisdictions in Canada and/or in U.S, Prorate plates are issued. These plates are licensed plates and exempt carriers from having to buy trip permits when they enter a jurisdiction. ICBC collects the full annual license fee and then sends the "pro rated" amount to each of the declared jurisdictions based on the mileage traveled. This exempts carriers from having to buy permits when they enter a jurisdiction that is a member of the International Registration Plan.

Are you eligible? You may prorate your vehicle(s) if they:

• travel within two or more IRP jurisdictions, and
• Are used to transport passengers for hire, or are designed, used, or maintained primarily for the transportation of property.
